The web hosting for site has been renewed for 2018. It has many photos of military ships, vehicles, manufacturing hardware, weapons and personnel. My view is: Those military people are innocent. They give their lives for the USA.   Thank the military for their service

I have learned much since 2009 and I have changed my mind about how I would describe this political situation in the USA. But, I have retained the previously written dialog on this site. Some of it was written 8+ years ago.

My intent is to reveal the way in which U.S. policy led to collapse, and not define morality or guilt of some offense etc.

I used MS Internet Explorer for creating the site. The host site software has some minor issues with a book like this. On a PC, empty spaces appear between paragraphs. I have tried to remove them, but the book is very big. Some fonts are stuck "on" etc. Spaces on the page sporadically appear on the pages (I'm trying to correct that). Some of the videos skip down the page on the mobile site. Besides that, I consider this book to be complete.

This is complete (for the most part) fall 2013. This site or another version and much of the content has been visible since 2010.

Some of the site photos have gone to the breeze. This site will be going away by winter 2015 if not sooner.

This book can be read in about 1 week. I recommend a big screen or zoom 200% etc.

Reading this book can be boring. Links near posted photographs are only for their credit/reference. Their articles are not always intended to be part of this book. If you trust the links really do lead to an article, the reading will go much faster.

Make a copy for reference if you want to read. This website will go away.

Formerly, I was an employee of General Motors. The Big 3 people, GM, the people there in no way advocated me to write this book. In the end, I have more questions than I have answers. Anyway, I have tried to bring light to this subject matter. This was written and copied by one person (me).

Information for you: The area around Detroit (the Big 3), Flint, Lansing (into Ohio, New York, Illinois, other states, parts of Ontario, Canada) etc. has stayed the same in many ways. People have manufactured automobiles in the area for 100 years. People live in 50+ years old housing. Many families moved here to Michigan (example) 50-100 years ago and stayed. They did not "morph" into industry wrecking leftists - as the media is leading many people to believe. However, in the following pages I will describe the -change- and in my opinion what did wreck the U.S. auto industry...

I hope this site doesn't offend or violate anyone. It includes historically "subject" words. I will thank the Japanese automakers for technology and apologize for war injury but not to those (longtime citizens) in the U.S. who have "canned" the Big 3. It is not my intention to exclude other states when using the term "Big 3" states. My intention is to use that term as a description of states forced into industrial decline because of the automobile industry. Although I may seem overly suspicious of the southern U.S., they have acquired a lot of assets and hardware. I was not raised through childhood to be suspicious of the southern U.S. I did not learn and keep my suspicion by watching television, or viewing events, or in the 1960s etc. My mind changed in the years 2008-2009. After studying and writing this, my mind is changed forever.

I'll begin about the 1940 era for review on this page and then go on to current events.

The content will reflect some U.S. and transportation history. My intent is to describe parties inside the U.S. who would have a goal to control the U.S. highway system and/or have automobiles for themselves. I learned much while writing this. My mind is changed forever.

  Henry Ford's decision to build a complete Ford auto-factory in Germany, and before the end of 1929 a site at Cologne (Niehl) made available by the mayor of the city, Konrad Adenauer[4] was acquired by Ford.[6] The 170,000 m2 site was originally intended to support an annual production of 250,000 cars


 Opel became a share-limited company (German: Aktiengesellschaft) in 1929; United States-based General Motors took a majority stake in Opel that same year. General Motors assumed full control in 1931

 GM was the (automotive) market leader in Japan throughout most of the 1920s and 1930s. GM established operations in 1915. From the period of 1929 to 1937, GM held a commanding market share of 42% in Japan.

Before the war, GM had operated an assembly plant in Osaka and Ford, an assembly plant in Yokohama.

Their cars and trucks had been popular with the Japanese public prewar when there was little domestic Japanese automaking.


World War 2...



Together, the 48 contiguous states and Washington, D.C. occupy a combined area of 3,119,884.69 square miles (8,080,464.3 km2), which is 1.58% of the total surface area of the Earth. Of this area, 2,959,064.44 square miles (7,663,941.7 km2) is land, composing 83.65% of U.S. land area, just slightly smaller than that of Australia.[6]


At the height of its power in 1942, the Japanese Empire ruled over a land area spanning 7,400,000 square kilometres (2,857,000 sq mi), making it one of the largest maritime empires in history.[5]


These three countries recognized German hegemony over most of continental Europe; Italian hegemony over the Mediterranean Sea; and Japanese hegemony over East Asia and the Pacific.

I'm not looking how many persons there in Hawaii were of German/U.S., Italian/U.S., French/U.S., Irish/English/U.S. etc. etc. descent (few)... My comments are not intended to offend anyone...

"The US, the biggest oil supplier for Japan at the time, imposed the oil embargo on Japan in July, 1941, and it helped the Japanese to make up their minds to fight against the Americans. Thus, in a way, the attack on Pearl Harbor was not a surprise one at all; it was a necessary result of the conflict and negotiation..... it was the war that they had to fight." .


I haven't a valid reference for names/numbers etc. of automobile industry workers who "shot first", or U.S. automotive industry "double-cross" etc. - as a reason for the attack, or the numbers of Oldsmobiles, Plymouths, Mercurys, etc. now at the bottom of Pearl Harbor, which were the cause of the whole mess, etc. (sarcasm) Of course it was 'convenient' to have the auto industry etc. - their towns and labor at 'our' (U.S.) disposal - even if only for what was spread as the reasons for the "our" war.. I apologize in advance for the sarcasm and comparison photos which are about to appear in the reading.

Hickam Field was built starting in 1936 to accommodate the rapid growth of the Army Air Corp's presence on Oahu. Luke Field located on Ford Island, previously served the USAAF, was simply to small to service the growing needs of the Corps.

Back to me...

I'm not trying to disown the war effort here. Anyone thinking the Big 3 autoworkers are responsible for problems inside the U.S. should re-think that opinion. You (government, lobby etc.) are utilizing foreign corporations and re-locating the automobile industry to states and towns where it never was (they didn't create it). The former U.S. companies, towns (industry) and people went bankrupt. You behave as if they deserve it and you are wrong. You have reserved Japan's (for example) financial system all for the new transplant automobile industry system. This new system is a "success" if it works positively for Japan (or Germany etc.). It doesn't matter if it works positively for areas of the U.S. (Flint, Detroit etc.) You have created a new and odd U.S. government court system. This system is like a "people's lobby court" With it, A society's affluence is decided by (foreigners) overseas based corporation's/state's government placement of industrial systems/"transplants", etc., automobile sales and pushing low priced vehicles into the transportation system.

General Motors’ Fisher division was awarded the contract to manufacture parts of the new B-29 long range bomber.

 War production profoundly changed American industry. Companies already engaged in defense work expanded. Others, like the automobile industry, were transformed completely. In 1941, more than three million cars were manufactured in the United States. Only 139 more were made during the entire war. Instead, Chrysler made fuselages. General Motors made airplane engines, guns, trucks and tanks. Packard made Rolls-Royce engines for the British air force. And at its vast Willow Run plant in Ypsilanti, Michigan, the Ford Motor Company performed something like a miracle 24-hours a day. The average Ford car had some 15,000 parts. The B-24 Liberator long-range bomber had 1,550,000. One came off the line every 63 minutes.

By 1944, the company (Ford) was making 48.5 percent of all B-24s produced. In 1945, the figure had increased to 80 percent. At its peak, the Willow Run facility was staffed by nearly 50,000 workers.

 From a worker's perspective, Willow Run is 75 miles away from Lansing and 35 miles away from Detroit city.

Clement Melville Keys (1876–1952) who as a financier/founder of aviation companies Curtiss-Wright, China National Aviation Corporation, North American Aviation and TWA. He has been called "the father of commercial aviation in America." founded North American Aviation (NAA) on December 6, 1928, as a holding company. However, the Air Mail Act of 1934 forced the breakup of such holding companies. North American became a manufacturing company. NAA did retain ownership of Eastern Air Lines until 1938.

General Motors Corporation took a controlling interest in NAA and merged it with its -General Aviation- division in 1933, but retaining the name North American Aviation. The company moved operations to southern California, which allowed flying year-round. Like other manufacturers, North American started gearing up for war, opening factories in Columbus, Ohio, Dallas, Texas, and Kansas City, Kansas. North American - BT-9 , T-6 Texan , B-25 Mitchell , P-51 Mustang The derivative A-36 Apache etc...

James H "Dutch" Kindelberger, who had an extensive background in aviation both as a pilot and aeronautical engineer. He accepted the job on the condition that friend and colleague, John Leland "Lee" Atwood, could join him as vice-president.

Under their leadership, North American Aviation Inc became a "real" aircraft manufacturing concern rather than just a holding company, with -General Aviation- becoming the manufacturing arm with factories at Dundalk MD and another factory being opened in Jan 1936 at Inglewood, near Mines Field (now part of LAX).

The Allison Engine Company was an American aircraft engine manufacturer. In 1929, shortly after the death of James Allison, the company was purchased by the Fisher brothers. Fisher sold the company to General Motors, who owned it for most of its history. The company was acquired by Rolls-Royce plc in 1995 to become a subsidiary, Rolls-Royce Corporation.

 The Allison Division of General Motors began developing the ethylene glycol-cooled engine in 1929 to meet a US Army Air Corps need for a modern, 1,000 hp (750 kW), engine to fit into a new generation of streamlined bombers and fighters. To ease production the new design could be equipped with different propeller gearing systems and superchargers, allowing a single production line to build engines for various fighters and bombers.

The Allison V-1710 aircraft engine was the only indigenous US-developed V-12 liquid-cooled engine to see service during World War II. Versions with a turbosupercharger gave excellent performance at high altitude in the twin-engined Lockheed P-38 Lightning, and turbosuperchargers were fitted to experimental single-engined fighters with similar results. General Motors FM-2 "Wildcat" fighters

In 1942, automobile manufacturer General Motors converted several of its east coast factories to aircraft production under the name Eastern Aircraft Division. Eastern received contracts to build F4F-4 "Wildcat" fighters and TBF-1 "Avenger" torpedo planes, allowing Grumman to gradually reconcentrate its energies on the new, urgently-needed F6F "Hellcat" fighter. The GM F4F-4s, redesignated FM-1s, had only four .50 caliber machine guns, but were otherwise little changed from the original model. Well over a thousand FM-1 fighters were delivered in 1942-43, including some three hundred for the British Royal Navy.

Meanwhile, Grumman had prototyped a new "Wildcat" under the designation XF4F-8, which was to be produced by Eastern Aircraft as the FM-2. With lightened structure and a more powerful Wright R-1820 radial engine, the FM-2 was notably quicker, faster climbing, longer ranged and more maneuverable than its predecessor. To help control the increased power, the new plane had a distinctive, taller vertical tail. All-in-all, it was a great improvement, and more than four thousand FM-2s were built in 1943-45. Of those, over three hundred went to the British.

In 1948, General Motors divested NAA as a public company.


Following the war, the Fairfax plant closed, and the airport was annexed by Kansas City, Kansas. Transcontinental and Western Air (which in 1950 was renamed Trans World Airlines or simply TWA) acquired the nearby B-25 Modification Center to use as an overhaul base until it was destroyed in the 1951 flood. In 1945, General Motors (GM) leased the B-25 plant and produced cars in the building until May 8, 1987. It then razed the historic bomber plant on January 19, 1989, to make room for the $1 billion Fairfax Assembly Plant.

Ford Highland Park M-4 Line...

The Detroit Arsenal Tank Plant (DATP) was the first manufacturing plant ever built for the mass production of tanks in the United States. Established in 1940 under Chrysler, this plant was owned by the U.S. government until 1996. It was designed by architect Albert Kahn. The M1 Abrams Tank contract went to Chrysler Defense 1972-1979. As a Government-Owned, Contractor Operated (GOCO) facility, Chrysler retained operational control of the production facility until March 1982, when Chrysler sold its Chrysler Defense division to General Dynamics Land Systems. General Dynamics produced the M1 Abrams tank at the facility (and at another plant in Lima, Ohio) until 1996, when the plant was closed and tank assembly and maintenance operations were consolidated[4] at the Lima plant.

Chrysler, seeing a future need for aircraft components, acted on its own initiative to lease the huge, empty plant, which was assigned to the DeSoto division (after the war, it produced DeSoto bodies and engines until 1959). Not long afterwards, Chrysler was assigned sections of the B-26 (the nose and center fuselage), building them despite size constraints on Warren Avenue.

DeSoto-Warren finished its first fuselage sections in May, 1942, and was ahead of schedule when, in July, the Air Force asked the plant to restrict production to only 65 sets a month. The Army also changed the wing flaps and moved them to DeSoto-Warren. Then, in mid-1943, with 1,200 planes done, the plants changed to the new B-29 Superfortress. The Air Force moved the B-29 from GM’s Fisher Body, in Cleveland, and assigned to Chrysler the pressurized nose section, leading edges, and engine cowlings.

""American auto workers, a great many of whom hailed originally from countries now under attack by the Nazis and the Red Army, were eager interventionists. The partitioning of Poland, the invasion of Finland, the murder of thousands of Polish officers in the Katyn Forest by Russians, all combined to provide a groundswell of support for war. Many employees were housed at Willow Run in huge government-built temporary dormitory-style housing for 14,000 workers. Others lived in tents, garages and trailers. Lots that had sold before the boom for $1.25-$6.25 were going for over $100. Some con men sold worthless flood plain lots to trailer owners who were flooded out at the first spring rains. There were angry calls for more permanent housing... Harry Bennett, Ford's controversial right hand man, orchestrated bringing thousands of workers up from the southern states. The southern workers battled homesickness, housing shortages, and lack of recreational facilities, and absenteeism was high. The relatively high wages tempted them to work for a short while and return home"...

Some of the people were of German and Italian etc. ancestry. They realized the war would force them into combat against family . They too worked in the factories, others were drafted into the military and they battled all the same...


"Arsenal of democracy" does not refer to a single city, but to the collective efforts of American industry in supporting the Allies. These efforts tended to be concentrated in established industrial centers, including Chicago, Detroit, New York, Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh, but also many other cities across the nation.

[1] Pittsburgh manufactured more steel for the Allies than any other steel-producing hub in the world—an amount over one-fifth of that made worldwide.[2][3] Detroit automakers temporarily suspended the manufacture of cars in order to produce tanks, aircraft, and other war-related machinery. The Detroit Arsenal Tank Plant accounted for 25% of all U.S. tank production.[4]


In the 1940s, in the U.S. it must have been "all business" ? - to automobile industry towns by manifest and orders etc. For example - "hey!, do you have our quality-and-value built bombers and tanks ready yet" - to the people and their families. Is there kaizen in your factory? Are you "lean"? (sarcasm) They didn't know their kin would be licking the boots of the Japanese and German companies 65 years later here in the USA...
